Bob and Marley

image

**** This Post is Rated PG ****

Meet Bob and Marley (Bob on the left hand side, Marley on the right). When we bought them, we got Bob from a pet store and Marley from CraigsList. Marley was going to be Bob’s girlfriend. Immediately you could tell the difference between the two. Bob was the nicest bunny, always trying to be around people. When he was out of his cage, he would even come up to everyone in the room to make sure he gave them all a kiss on the hand. Marley hated us. In every picture we have, she looks absolutely miserable lol. She also made it a point to chew all of our baseboards. She loved Bob though. She bossed him around, but they still snuggled and slept together. We told everyone about his new girlfriend. Then something changed.

Marley started taking over the hangout spot in the cage. Then we noticed her humping Bob’s face on a regular basis. At first we thought maybe he enjoyed it lol. But we came to realize that Bob was now miserable. It turned into a power struggle with both bunnies frantically trying to hump each other’s faces before the other one did. Then one day we found out that Bob’s girlfriend was actually a MAN FRIEND!  The lady we bought him/her from promised he/she was a girl, and he/she was so shaggy that we never bothered to check LOL!

This was actually a serious problem though. I did some research on my own to find out what the face humping meant. Then I found out that after a male rabbit as humped another male rabbit’s face, it can take its claw and cut the other rabbits head off! Afraid for Bob’s life we had to give away one bunny. Obviously Marley was the one to go.

Here is the moral of this story - make sure you know if your bunny is a boy or a girl! Bob is single and happy now, although it took him awhile to get over his Marly days.

When I hear this song, I always think about their relationship - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzkG6Xu6lUE

Crazy Toronto

image

I live in Toronto, which is basically Canada’s version of New York City. When I moved here all my friends were saying what a crazy and scary city it is. For the last two years I have lived here I have been telling them that its really a very happy place. But TODAY I got to experience Toronto’s crazy side!

This morning I fell down a massive flight of stairs and actually really hurt my back. I looked back to see if anyone saw my epic fall, and there was one guy on his bike looking at me. Next thing you know the guy is basically chasing me down. I thought he wanted to see if I was o.k, but then he starts yelling at me and asking me what my problem is. I tried to reason with him or at least find out what I did lol. But he just kept yelling “YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID! Don’t pretend!” It’s funny to think of now but he was actually in my face for at least 15 minutes and I thought he was going to beat me up. SO at the time it was quite terrifying. Eventually I just said “You are right I have a problem.” lol and then the guy called me some names and walked in the opposite direction.

He must have circled around and started following me, because I went into a store and bought some stuff and then saw him coming into the store! you could tell he was looking around for me too. So then I went from thinking “this guy is going to beat me up” to “this guy is going to murder me!” So I snuck out the back and ran to the subway before he saw me.

But besides this incident, and then the one other time this summer that a guy on the subway with a santa hat was yelling “Merry Christmas!!!” and throwing stuff at people - I swear Toronto is quite normal.

I go to that area of town twice a week, so I will keep everyone posted on the angry biker dude if I see him again. :/

“The Homeless”

image

This post is going to be about something that has always bothered me. I am not sure why our society always feels the need to lump people into categories such as “single moms,” and “the homeless.“ Then every time we see someone that could fall under one of those categories, we automatically bypass them as a person, and assume we know who they are based our stereotypes. The big thing that bothers me is the way we treat homeless people, and often assume the worst of them. Yes, some homeless people are drug addicts, do not want to work for a living, etc. However, that is not always the case. Here are just two of the many reasons that someone could wind up on the streets:

  • Mental Disorders - There are certain people who develop serious mental disorders by no fault of their own. And people can be quick to say things like “why don’t they just get help then?” Its so much more complicated than that. Especially when your mental disorder is so severe that you don’t even know you have one. People who are that far gone live in a different reality than we do. Also, sometimes counseling and medication is not the miracle fix we think it is. Someone can be tested on a number of medications and treatments for years before they find a combination that works. Until then they can end up alternating between being institutionalized and being homeless.
  • Abuse - Some teenagers and even adults live in abusive homes and really have nowhere to go. And sometimes living on the street is safer than the home that they are living in.

We often hear someone say “why don’t they just get a job?” Its not so easy to get a job when you don’t have clean clothes, a bank account, or an address. And not everyone is lucky enough to have a family to stay with. Some of them are completely alone.

So if someone is completely alone and going through problems we can’t even begin to imagine, do we really need to be looking down on them? Before you say things like “I can’t stand the homeless.” or “The homeless are ruining our society,” please just stop and think about the sweeping generalizations of these statements. And maybe we could take a second to ask ourselves this; if we went through the same situations, can we really be sure that we wouldn’t be in the exact same spot they are? I am not saying to give money to every homeless person you see. But I think that the very least we can do is look those people in the eyes and see them for what they are - human beings.

Here is a really good music video that might make you think :)

Ol’ Gapy

This is my first blog so I’m sorry if i’m doing it wrong (haha). I wanted it to be about something important, but all I can think about right now is my damn tooth! So a couple of weeks ago I was eating a piece of flatbread of all things, when I heard a scary snapping sound. I opened my mouth and my tooth fell out! So obviously I freaked out. I spent a good 30 minutes calling people and screaming over the phone. It was terrifying. So then I had an emergency appointment with the dentist - more terrifying! They had to remove the rest of the tooth, which didn’t hurt BUT looked and felt like they were trying to pull my whole jaw apart. I just kept thinking of the horror movies where someone starts pulling on a persons teeth until they rip their jaw off (yes I’m a wimp lol)! Then after that I had to get home from this dental office in the middle of nowhere, drugged up with half my mouth frozen. I was running around trying to chase cabs down and no one would stop for me (probably because I looked insane). NOW I have to pay $300 for a denture which wasn’t covered by my insurance, and THEN $4000 for a new tooth!! So I will be broke for quite some time lol. Anyways here is the moral of my story - Go to the dentist for your check ups! I probably had some cavity I had no clue about because I always avoid going to the dentist. So let this be a lesson to all of us haha. It should be fixed in a few months. Until then I can’t seem to shake the nickname Ol’ Gapy lol.

In an attempt to make myself feel better, here is a list of celebs with missing teeth! http://globalgrind.com/music/8-celebrities-chipped-or-missing-teeth?page=1
